Turmeric Fire Cider

Directions

  1. Toss all ingredients in a large bowl to mix.
  2. Divide the ingredients into two quart jars, taking care to place one stick of cinnamon in each jar.
  3. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ingredients, enough to cover (add more vinegar if needed).
  4. Place a piece of parchment paper over the jars, then lid to prevent the vinegar from corroding the metal jar lid.
  5. Let sit for 4 weeks, shaking and inverting the jar daily.
  6. Strain the vinegar into clean jar.
  7. Warm the honey and add to the jar. Stir to incorporate.

Enjoy a tablespoon or two straight up, mix with water, or add to lemonade or hot water. Can be stored in refrigerator up to one year.

Health Benefits

Fire cider has so much going for it; it’s hard to know where to begin! Apple cider vinegar alone offers incredible benefits for immune and digestive function. Using a ‘live’ brand like Bragg’s ensures you are capitalizing on the probiotic activity as well. Allowing this mixture to steep at room temp over time preserves the benefits of the cider culture, as well as allowing the flavors of all the ingredients to develop. The ingredients added to the cider are all powerful immune enhancers that serve to ward off infection, colds, flus and bronchial bugs. This recipe is incredibly malleable. If it’s too spicy for you, you can always remove the seeds from the chili or tone down the horseradish. Substitute raw apple cider for the honey for a change in sweetness, or add spices like paprika. Soon enough, your family may have your own secret brew.
