Everybody has had a dream at least once in their life. The beauty of having dreams is that they are different for each person, and the journey to reaching them builds you up as you go. You get to advance your skills, problem solve and learn about yourself through the process. Achieving your dreams usually is not a linear path. It’s full of trial and errors, and you have to pick yourself up as you go. When you get to the finish line and reach your goal, it all becomes worth it.
But why do so many people give up on their dreams?
Did you know that 95% of people never reach that finish line? It all has to do with your mindset.
One of the main reasons people don’t achieve their dreams is because they are out of their comfort zone. A dream is just that…a dream. They either feel unattainable or that it will take too many years to grasp them, and this type of thinking automatically makes some people think they do not have what it takes to fulfill their dreams. It takes confidence and perseverance to complete a goal, and changing your mindset will get you there.
Dreams can manifest at any point in life. Some people have dreams from when they were kids, while others have them well into their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. Having a goal is not pinpointed to any age at all, however many people feel that their age determines whether or not they can actually achieve it.
For example, someone might be 15-20 years into their career and they are not satisfied, but perhaps being a business owner ignites a spark in them. They can choose to take a risk and follow their heart, or stay in a space of comfortability. Their mindset and strength is what will make or break them, but your age does not define your success.
“To be a small business owner you have to have ambition and grit. You have to put in the hours and work hard to make sure your business is successful. Starting a business from the ground up is difficult, so you have to be prepared for anything that comes your way,” says Corey Pearson, VP of Customer Success at Linda’s Electric Quilters.
Age has nothing to do with whether or not you can achieve your goals. If you believe in yourself, stick to your plan and follow through, you will get there.
People often start their journey to their dreams, but stop in their tracks because they do not have enough inspiration and motivation to keep going. There will be times where the terrain gets tough and you feel like you don’t have what it takes, but you have to remove yourself from the situation. This can help clear your head, and give you the inspiration you need to finish whatever project you started.
“Being creative is all about being in tune with yourself and your surroundings. If you are stuck in a rut make sure to change up your space. Sometimes I go outside for some fresh air or complete a different task to take my mind off of the fact that I do not know what to make. This helps you change up your perspective and see things in a new way. You can also draw inspiration from your own feelings,” says Pearson.
Success is not always a destination, but it is a feeling in and of itself. You can feel successful just by believing in yourself.
It’s never too late to follow your dreams. No matter your age, ability, or talent if you set your heart and mind to something you will get there. Change your mindset into thinking “what if I can?” instead of “what if I can’t?” You deserve to reach your dreams, so don’t let your self doubt hold you back. Whether it’s opening a small business, trying a new hobby or forming new relationships you can be successful if you try.
