I’ve been studying inner conflict and how it can prevent us from reaching our goals. For instance, if I want to lose weight but I am using food to fill an emotional need, weight loss can be very difficult to achieve. I am in conflict.
For many years I wanted to lose weight, but used food and drink as a way to develop deepened connections with my friends and family. Not eating or drinking with them made me feel lonely and isolated. It wasn’t until I was able to find new ways of connecting with myself and others that I was able to resolve this struggle and lose the weight.
Do you eat to soothe, feed or avoid an emotion? Is your desire to get healthy or lose weight in conflict with how you may be using food to meet your needs?

  1. I eat because I get bored. I guess that means I eat to avoid sitting still with myself.
